According to experts from the University of Oviedo, the building housing the “Casona” belongs to the Regional Mountain style. It was built in 1947 and was something of an event in Perlora, with the Bishop of Oviedo, Benjamín de Arriba y Castro, present at the inauguration.
When the owners, the Moré de Carreño family, sold it, it was converted into a Hostel on June 15, 1968. The name "El Carmen" was a tribute to the original owner, Carmen Moré. The facilities were subsequently improved, and all the rooms became en suite in 1979.
From September, 1996 to July, 1997 the building was completely reformed, leaving the entrance and communal areas as they were originally, plus 15 en suite bedrooms with hairdryers and magnifying mirrors, central heating, satellite TV, Internet access with modem and individual safe. It also has private parking facilities and a living room.
